Being able to pair the right beer to various kinds of foods is a skill guaranteed to impress your dinner companions. Here are our best tips for Stockholm bars and breweries that offer beer tastings and brewery tours, allowing you to navigate smoothly among the world of malt, hops, lager and ale.
One of Sweden's most modern breweries
Take a peek behind the scenes of one of Sweden's most modern breweries, with its roots in American craft beer culture. Get right up close to the brewery equipment in the malt room, peek down into the mash pans and check out the fermentation tanks. Taste and smell the beer and then taste your way through selected beers from the brewery.

Have dinner at the same time
Let the beer experts at Ardberg guide you on a beer odyssey while you eat dinner in the restaurant. The evening begins by learning about how beer is brewed before you delve deeper into how each beer gets its own unique character. You'll also learn more about the makers behind the beers and, if you like, focus on beers from Swedish microbreweries. Their beer tastings are perfect for novices and more knowledgeable beer drinkers alike.

The brewery by the pier
Nacka Bryggeri, alongside the pier at Saltsjö Pir marina, arranges both beer tastings and brewery tours. Find out how the brewery works as well as learning about various malt, hops, yeast and beer types. During the tasting your guide will explain how the different flavours are created. Unusual beers in the Old Town
Beer tastings with Tritonia take place either at Tritonia's Ölverkstad (beer factory) in the Old Town, or at your own home if you prefer a slightly more personal experience. Choose from three different types of beer tastings, depending on how deep into the world of beer you want to delve. Ölverkstaden serves a lot of rare and unusual beers, which adds an extra element to the tasting.

Classic themed tasting
Your beer sommelier begins the tasting by choosing a theme and then some beers to fit it. The beer tasting always starts with the lightest beer, before getting successively heavier. Flavour-wise, it goes from dry to sweet, and price-wise from cheap to expensive. The common theme then runs through the entire tasting session and you don't need any prior knowledge to take part.
Microbrewery in the archipelago
You'll find Fjäderholmarnas Bryggeri on an island a 25 minute boat ride from Nybrokajen/Slussen. The perfect place to come if you want to learn more about how a good beer is brewed and what the difference between lager and ale is, all while enjoying the beautiful archipelago surroundings. The beer tasting includes five different beers and you also get a guided tour of the microbrewery. The opening hours vary according to the time of year.
Tastings and brewing courses
Enjoy beers from Waza's own brewery in Vasastan. Beer tastings are arranged several times a week - both open and private. If you contact the restaurant in advance you can even arrange a beer tasting for you and your party at your table. You can also learn how to brew your own beer in group sessions, which you can come back and taste with your friends at a later occasion.
