I'm all for culture not to be a class issue and this cozy museum is completely free! In addition, incredibly child-friendly!
The museum is beautifully located, right by the water out on Djurgården. Now we visited it in the winter when the wind whipped, but in the summer it is perfect to have a picnic on the large lawn outside the museum or possibly sit on one of the benches and watch the boats simmer past on the Djurgården canal.
The museum is large, it is several floors and there is a lot to see. An incredible amount of exciting history and huge models of real historical ships. There are also genuine figureheads and the like on the walls. There really is a lot to see, a lot of history to read. In addition, there is an exhibition that highlights the work of the coast guard and sea rescue in the Mediterranean during the great refugee crisis. Stories, pictures and real movies that show their real work. Rarely have I been so touched by anything.
For the kids there is fun stuff to explore on all floors and in the basement there is a large playroom when they need to run off.
Even I, who am in no way particularly interested in shipping, think this was an interesting, fun, cozy and educational excursion.
