Manchester is officially the best place to sink a pint in the UK

It's official: Manchester has been voted the best city in the UK to drink beer. Cheers to that. It's safe to say beer is important to us Brits, and it plays a major role in the makeup of many European cultures. You'll find a plethora of beer-related shenanigans in Manchester, from buzzy bars and breweries to beer festivals and pubs, so it's no surprise we're ranking as the number one spot to sink a pint.

With a rich history of breweries like Hydes, J.W. Lees, and Joseph Holt, alongside numerous independent spots such as Cloudwater, Track, and Seven Bro7hers, Manchester offers a range of traditional and modern brewing expertise.

You might wonder how this title came about. Well, DFDS analysed 70 European cities, delving into 8,000 bars and pubs and taking to social media to examine over 40,000 reviews. The criteria for evaluation included beer quality, pricing, social media engagement, and the vibe of bars and pubs. Each city was then awarded a score out of 100 based on these factors, with Manchester scoring a whopping 62 overall.

Spain and the Czech Republic claimed the top spots in the European ranking. Germany and Belgium, renowned worldwide for their beer, landed in seventh and ninth place, respectively. London came in at number 31, so we won't be yelling about that over at Thatsup London.
