You'll spot a surprising sight as you walk between Borough Market and the South Bank through winding streets – Winchester Palace. This bishop's palace was built in the 13th century but was destroyed by fire in 1814. Its ruins remain in place in the heart of London. You can't step inside this palace but you can admire its medieval architecture, with the walls of its Great Hall still remaining.
