Named after the founder’s maternal grandmother, whose love of ice cream left a lasting impression, Ruby Violet creates quintessentially British ice cream and sorbets using organic milk, free-range eggs and fresh fruit.

Though Ruby Violet’s beloved original location next to Tufnell Park was forced to close during lockdown, their second branch in King’s Cross is still going strong. The charming decor is definitely a factor, featuring a curvy centrepiece Panama table, exposed brick walls, a railway-inspired flavours board and aged lighting and mirrors, as well as an outside area that’s framed with planters. But in case you can’t make it over there, they also offer nationwide delivery.

Since first venturing into frozen waters, founder Julie Fisher has created more than 150 different flavours of ice cream, many of them conjuring up classic images of UK summer. There’s the fresh mint & cucumber, British blackcurrant or elderflower & prosecco sorbets, for example, or the lavender ice cream. Other best-sellers include pink grapefruit & pineapple, malted milk, hot cross bun, salted caramel & almond nut brittle and coffee mocha ripple. If you find yourself stuck, you can even order a tasting menu.

The Ruby Violet parlour next to Granary Square also offers ice cream cake and sticky toffee pudding, as well as milkshakes, hot drinks and wine to go with your scoops and cones.
