Ramadan Lights are back in London's West End

Ramadan 2024 is officially underway, meaning Muslims around the globe are embarking on a journey of reflection, prayer, fasting, and community bonding from the evening of Sunday, March 10, until Tuesday, April 9. 

On Thursday, March 7, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, flipped the switch to ignite a spectacle of 30,000 lights, casting an iridescent glow from Piccadilly Circus, along Coventry Street, and all the way to Leicester Square. And that's not all. Edgware Road joins the festivities with a brand-new Ramadan installation that stands proudly at 2.9 meters and features the iconic crescent moon. 

Generously funded by the Aziz Foundation, this mesmerising exhibit dubbed 'Sundial' draws inspiration from the transition between sunrise (suhoor) and sunset (iftar) during the sacred month of Ramadan. During Ramadan, the display will say 'Happy Ramadan,' and as the month draws to a close, the message will shift to celebrate Eid festivities with 'Happy Eid.' This marks a significant milestone as Europe's first major light display to pay homage to Eid al-Fitr.
