Spanning the whole of human history, the British Museum sets plenty of milestones in its own right. The first national museum in the world to open to the general public, it has one of the largest permanent collections on the planet – around eight million works in total. Divided according to period and origin, the exhibits include highlights such as the Rosetta Stone and Egyptian mummies.

A fascinating collection in an impressive building, always a good way to spend a couple of hours.

Great place to visit if you are into history and art, worth it for the building alone as well as all the artefacts from all over the world
