Two London museums are included in the Museum of the Year shortlist

Arts charity Art Fund has announced the shortlist for its annual Museum of the Year competition, and two London museums are included in the nominees. Each shortlisted museum receives £15,000 of funding, whilst the eventual winner will get £120,000 to continue funding their activities. 

This year, the National Portrait Gallery and the Young V&A are both in with a chance of winning the crown. They're joined by the Craven Museum in Yorkshire, Dundee Contemporary Arts, and Manchester Museum. Both of the London nominees have recently undergone significant refurbishments and restorations. The National Portrait Gallery has subsequently increased the number of works on display, as well as included more diversity in the collection. The Young V&A has been transformed into an acclaimed interactive space that centres around children. 

The winner will be announced in a ceremony at the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square on 10th July. If one of the London museums wins, they'll join previous London-based winners; the William Morris Gallery took the prize in 2016 whilst the Horniman Museum triumphed in 2022.
