Where to celebrate the National Day of Sweden in Stockholm

Sweden's National Day is celebrated on June 6th each year, with food, music and entertainment. There are several spots in and around Stockholm where you can join in the patriotic party, including parties in the park, musical performances by major artists and traditional dancing and flag-waving at Skansen. This year's programme in Rålambshovsparken and at the Smedsuddsbadet outdoor swimming spot includes several activities for children and young people. There will be performances from Parkteatern, Sabor Dance Academy and entertainment from Kulturskolan, as well as food and music from all corners of the world.

As usual the National Day will be celebrated traditionally at Stockholm's open air folk museum, with folk dancing, old-fashioned activities for children, flag-making workshops and face painting. The day culminates in a lively, star-studded concert on the Solliden stage, attended by the Swedish royal family.

Hågelbyparken in Tumba will be celebrating with family-friendly fun and activities. There will be entertainment from magician Tobbe Trollkarl and the Trix fire performance group, vintage Cadillac cars on display and boules and kubb to play. Fun for the entire family! Have something to eat and drink while you're there at Café Anna Giertz or Parkserveringen.

Celebrate Sweden's big day with a feast! The popular festival Smaka på Stockholm (Taste Stockholm) in Kungsträdgården is taking place on the 5-9 June this year, with masses of popular restaurants, food trucks and culinary experiences. The theme this year is zero waste. You'll also find the Thatsup team there, so come by and say hi!

At Södermalm's Stora Blecktornsparken they'll be celebrating with pony rides, a bouncy castle, live music, candy floss, clowns and rabbit showjumping. Family fun.

Do you and your partner fancy getting spontaneously hitched? Celebrate the National Day with a marriage ceremony in the gardens of Vitabergsparken. Bring along your beloved, I.D and a valid certificate of no impediment from the Swedish Tax Authorities. At least one of you must be a member of the Swedish church.

For the seventh year in a row, Rinkeby square will be putting on a public party with food, music and children's activities. Enjoy singing and circus performances, or listen to the political speeches. In the afternoon, Tensta Gospel Choir will be performing and there will also be musical performances from Kritin Amparo, Ali Dhaanto and Fartum Brimo.

This year, Humlegården, a charming little park in the centre of town, will be celebrating its 400 year anniversary on Sweden's National Day. There will be theatrical performances by Kulturskolan Stockholm, a bouncy castle and woodworking for kids, as well an outdoor quiz.

Not a traditional National Day celebration, perhaps, but still good fun. Stockholm Hippie Market will be held at Vintervikens Trädgård this year on 6 June, along with Chillival, a music festival playing a summery mix of house and downtempo, with world music influences.
