Bookshops in Stockholm

Gamla Stans Bokhandel

Personal selection

An inviting bookshop in the Old Town that's run by the publishing company Volante. You'll find a personal selection of books ranging from classics to modern bestsellers, but above all a wide range of popular science and books in English. Gamla Stans Bokhandel arranges talks by authors, book signings and other literary events.

Hedengrens Bokhandel

A must for book lovers

Hedengrens in Sturegallerian shopping centre is more 100 years old and it's a must-visit for all book lovers. They call themselves an "indie bookshop" and there are masses of interesting finds here. The ground floor isn't that big, but head downstairs and you can browse for hours. You can also attend authors' evenings and other events here.

Science Fiction Bokhandeln

Sci-fi paradise

Do you love sci-fi, fantasy and horror? If so, Science Fiction Bokhandeln in the Old Town is the place to go. There are two floors filled with books, games, films, comics and much more within those genres. The selection includes novels for both adults and children, non-fiction, art books, manga and cookbooks.

Papercut

Books and magazines

Papercut on Mariatorget doesn't just stock a wide selection of international magazines, they also sell books. You'll find everything from art and architecture to novels, non-fiction, cookbooks, fashion and more. If you're in the mood to shop, Nitty Gritty is right next door.

The English Bookshop

English bookshop

If you're looking for books in English, The English Bookshop is a sure thing. The store on Södermannagatan stocks English literature in lots of different genres for both adults and children. An oasis for anyone who loves to read. They also have a branch in Uppsala.

Söderbokhandeln

Atmospheric

One of Stockholm's most charming bookshops is, surprisingly, in the middle of Götgatan. Söderbokhandeln opened in 1927 and the bookshelves here stretch from floor to ceiling. The narrow shop is full of classics and contemporary books, perfect whether you're looking for a special gift or just want to take in the atmosphere.

Vattumannen

For spiritual seekers

Vattumannen, which used to be on Drottninggatan, is a treasure trove for anyone interested in spirituality. Take a deep dive into subjects such esoterics, philosophy, yoga and meditation, astrology and numerology, to name just a few. As well as books they sell crystals and other products.

Bokslukaren

Books and cakes for children

Bokslukaren on Mariatorget can be described as a mini cultural centre for children. It's a bookstore for children of all ages, but also a café inspired by various children's books. They also organise fairy-tale readings, exhibitions and other events for little readers.

Konst-ig

Art books galore

Konst-ig opened up in light, airy premises in Södermalm in 1994 and, as the name suggests, they specialise in art books. If you're looking for beautiful, inspiring books on architecture, art, fashion, design, photography and graphic design you've come to the right place.

Rönnells Antikvariat

Always relevant

Few places are as fascinating as an authentic antiquarian bookstore. Rönnellls Antikvariet, a stone's throw from Stureplan, was founded in 1929 and is just as relevant today. They stock a wide range of interesting books and they even publish some of their own books. Author talks, performances and other events take place regularly.
