The best fish restaurants in Stockholm

Family-owned Lisa Elmqvist has been serving up marine delicacies for almost a hundred years. The restaurant is inside the historic Östermalmshallen covered food market, and during the summer months they open up Lisa på torget, an outdoor restaurant on the square. Pick and choose from a large selection of top quality dishes, all with the freshest of fish and shellfish directly from the sea. Lisa Elmqvist also offers an extensive drinks menu that includes cocktails, wine and beer. 

Wedholms Fisk opened in 1985 and is one of Stockholm's most famous seafood restaurants. The restaurant was one of the first in Sweden to be awarded a Michelin star, and the emphasis is on craftsmanship and top quality ingredients. Perfect for traditionalists. 

Melanders has built a reputation as fish and seafood experts since the Sixties, with various stores around Stockholm. Their shop and brasserie on Dalagatan serves French/Swedish classic fish dishes, and in the evenings it transforms into a shellfish and oyster bar. 

The Fishery, run by chef Malin Söderström, among others, serves popular fish dishes at budget-friendly prices. Enjoy fresh fish dishes such such as crispy fish, fish tacos and fish burgers. The restaurant in Teatern was quickly followed by a branch on Brunkebergs torg in Stockholm City.

Star restaurateur Mathias Dahlgren's Seafood Gastro is housed in the Grand Hôtel, which gives you an idea of the level of ambition here. The restaurant's focus is on aquatic ingredients such as fish, shellfish, seabirds, algae and other delicacies that live in or by the water. A set menu, designed to take guests on a culinary journey to the sea, is served, preferably paired with a perfectly-matched drinks package.

This waterfront brasserie serves modern archipelago-inspired food in nautical surroundings. The menu includes plenty of fish and shellfish dishes. Sit outside in the sunshine or warm yourself in front of the log fire in the winter months. Open all year round.

Inside Östermalms Saluhall food market, Nybroe Smørrebrød serves a wide selection of Danish smörrebröd open sandwiches. Cold-smoked salmon, prawn and dill mayo, pickled herring, fried fish and much more - whatever you fancy there's a topping to suit. Order a few sandwiches if you're hungry, or just one as a snack.

Piscine delicacies take centre stage at Rolfs Kök's sister restaurant. The menu varies according to the catch of the day and the chefs' creativity, but it always includes a wide range of cold, warm and hot shellfish. Come by for a slap-up marine meal or to hangout at the bar with a glass of crisp white wine and a couple of oysters.  

This family-owned fish specialists in Fruängen has been around since 1974. In recent years Erssons has transformed into a charming deli-bistro serving both lunch and dinner. Enjoy classic fish and shellfish dishes made from top-quality ingredients, or buy something from the deli counter to take home with you. Blasieholmens Aquarium & Restaurant serves seasonal delicacies in an innovative food court-style restaurant complete with an aquarium. Guests are invited to choose their fresh seafood of choice from the display before preparation. Eat in, enjoy a glass of wine, or buy your food to take home with you. 

Sturehof is the obvious choice if you're in the market for delectable seafood. This classic bistro blends Swedish and French vibes and offers an extensive menu from the deep blue, featuring oysters, lobster and other delicacies. The restaurant also boasts an extensive wine list perfect for pairing with your meal. 

Lennart & Bror initially opened up their restaurant with a focus on meat on Birger Jarlsgatan. It became so popular they decided to expand with a fish restaurant - and so Lennart & Bror Fisk was born. The white-tiled restaurant is decorated with marine-inspired mosaic floors and details, and the menu includes grilled fish and streetfood-inspired dishes.

Grodan is a distinguished French-style brasserie with a generous fruits de ,er offering, their fish stew is particularly popular as are their seafood platters. The bustling restaurant is open from early morning to late night and attracts a wide audience. They also have a sister restaurant in the historic surroundings of the Royal Opera House.

As indicated by its name, Stockholm Fisk specialises in seafood. Due to its central location, regulars and business travellers alike frequent this authentic restaurant. Daily catch and signatures such as Toast Skagen, trout and sole are featured on the menu.

The menu at Ångbåtsbryggan bar and restaurant in the middle of Strandvägen offers a daily lunch special and á la carte dishes with classics such as bouillabaisse, baked Arctic char and prawn salad. There's also a generous selection of smaller dishes such as Toast Skagen, oysters, bleak roe and smoked prawns. 

This fish bistro inside Hötorgshallen food hall serves top quality dishes with both Swedish and international elements; everything from fish and chips and pasta frutti di mare to fried herring and salmon pudding. If you're on the run Kajsa's takeaway is a popular alternative.
