South American and Latin American food is the hot new addition to Stockholm's restaurant scene. Forget boring Nineties-style tacos; these days you'll find fresh taquerias and other Mexican restaurants along with Peruvian cevicherias and influences from the Caribbean and other parts of South America. Latin American cuisine stretches from the American South and Central America, where corn-based dishes, salsas and hot chilli spices are common, all the way down to Patagonia in the south of South America. South American cuisine has its origins at the border between Panama and Colombia and offers a wide variety of dishes. Be prepared for a flavour explosion - you'll find the very best Latin American, South American and Mexican restaurants in Stockholm in our guide.

Eatery SocialRingvägen 98, Skanstull/Södermalm
By Marcus Samuelsson
Star chef Marcus Samuelsson's food concept within the Clarion Hotel Stockholm takes its inspiration from the street food of Mexico and Peru, and there's even a spacious bar with a strong preference for tequila and mezcal. Put together a selection of small dishes such as homemade tortillas, ceviche, tacos and South American burgers and share with the rest of the table.
Aji y AjoTegelviksgatan 85, Södermalm
Award-winning Aji y Ajo was among the first restaurants in Scandinavia to specialise in Peru's national dish ceviche, fast-marinated fish. The name means peppar and garlic in Spanish and they're not afraid of spices here. The spankingly fresh fish they use is fresh and healthy, Peru's own answer to sushi.
Fun culinary trio
With party organiser Damon Rasti at the helm, Yuc on Odenplan quickly became a Mexican favourite in Stockholm. The concept revolves around tacos, ceviche and cocktails. After their success in Vasastan, they opened up Yuc LatAsian, a fusion restaurant with flavours from Latin America, and a summer restaurant in Tantolunden park.
