Stockholm's best Latin American restaurants
Updated 3 Jun 2019
South American and Latin American food is the hot new addition to Stockholm's restaurant scene. Forget boring Nineties-style tacos; these days you'll find fresh taquerias and other Mexican restaurants along with Peruvian cevicherias and influences from the Caribbean and other parts of South America. Latin American cuisine stretches from the American South and Central American, where corn-based dishes, salsas and hot chilli spices are common, all the way down to Patagonia in the south of South American. South American cuisine has its origins at the border between Panama and Colombia and offers a wide variety of dishes. Be prepared for a flavour explosion - you'll find the very best Latin American, South American and Mexican restaurants in Stockholm in our guide.
Sociable taste trip to Latin American
Loosen up those Nordic joints at the retro pop restaurant Supper. Latin American flavours have been collected during trips to the Caribbean and South American, and they flow out onto the table and in the glass. Small dishes such as ceviche and jerk chicken can be found on the menu alongside larger meat and fish dishes, South American wine and refreshing cocktails. All framed by a funky style mash-up with vintage details and warm vibes which make us long for the Caribbean.

By Marcus Samuelsson
Star chef Marcus Samuelsson's food concept within the Clarion Hotel Stockholm takes its inspiration from the street food of Mexico and Peru, and there's even a spacious bar with a strong preference for tequila and mezcal. Put together a selection of small dishes such as homemade tortillas, ceviche, tacos and South American burgers and share with the rest of the table.

Mexico meets Hornstull
Friendly Södermalm vibes meet typical, modern and reinterpreted Mexican dishes at Calexico's inside Debaser in Hornstull. Culinary high point in Hökarängen
Hökarängen has climbed several culinary rungs with Scandinavia's first pure "cevicheria". The prize-winning Aji y Ajo serves Peru's national dish ceviche, flash-marinated fish, in a warm, authentic setting that's been a hit since it opened. The name means pepper and garlic in Spanish and they're not afraid of spices here. The spankingly fresh fish is very healthy, rather like Peru's answer to sushi. Well worth a taste excursion!

Här grillas köttet i öppet kök och serveras med tillbehör som friterad sötpotatis, pommes och quesadilla. Allt i allt en social mötesplats med genomgående influenser och referenser från Latinamerika.

A taquería worth queuing for
The Mexican taquería La Neta shows how street food should be done with simple tex-mex food at just the right level. During the rush hour there's a queue for the till where you order your food, which you then collect when your electronic button starts beeping. The fully-tiled concept is as popular as it is uncomplicated. As well as tacos you can pick up quesadillas and other classic sides depending on how hungry you are, and the food is perfect as both lunch or an unpretentious dinner washed down with a little Mexican beer.
Checa in Skanstull is run by Valentin Checa, who left the world of finance to cook Peruvian food inspired by his own memories and experience. You'll fine ceviche and other authentic dishes from Peru on the menu, along with drinks such as pisco sour and Peruvian beer. Count on a sociable, friendly atmosphere.

Southern vibes in a busy beer joint
Peppar has become a real favourite with its busy, kitsch setting in which rock music, beer and food from the southern states come together. In other words, you get everything in one at this Sankt Eriksplan joint; after work drinks, party atmosphere and Creole culinary influences which stand the test of time. Expect plenty of chili and other strong spices, as well as stews and tasty tidbits to go with your beer. A real Södermalm vibe for a Vasastan spot.
