Few parts of Stockholm are as packed with restaurants and bars as Södermalm. Historic beer cafés sit alongside cutting-edge, award-winning cocktail bars with skilled mixologists. We've gone through all the bars in Södermalm with a fine toothcomb and have listed the best bars in each respective area. The bars in the guide are divided up into Södermalm's different areas: Hornstull, Mariatorget/Zinkensdamm, Slussen/Medborgarplatsen, Katarina/Sofia and Skanstull.

One of the 50 best bars in the world
Tjoget is the only Swedish bar to have been named on the prestigious "The World's Best 50 Bars" list several years in a row and their popularity is hard to miss. As well as a famous cocktail bar, the concept also includes the winebar Hornstulls Bodega and a beer café all under the same roof.

Fusion and cocktails
Barbro is probably best known for their popular fusion dishes, but if you're in the mood for a cocktail you've also come to the right place. They conjure up skilfully mixed cocktails from behind the ground-floor bar counter and in the basement bar. There's a great atmosphere with stylish Japanese-Scandinavian design.

Klang Market is on street level next door to Hornshuset. Just like the food menu, the drinks reflect influences from all over the world. Popular bar scene
The warm, friendly atmosphere and great bar scene are the main reasons for visiting Judit & Bertil. It's named after a couple who lived in the area in the mid 1900s and portraits of them hang all over the premises. There are plenty of thirst-quenching options when the bar's packed.

You'll find one of Stockholm's absolute best bars next to the charming neighbourhood favourite Hommage, housed in a former fire station on Krukmakargatan. Enjoy Pastis or order one of their popular cocktails with exciting ingredients.
HäktetHornsgatan 82, Södermalm
Everything under one roof
Häktet, which was a prison in the 18th and 19th century, now houses several different bars all gathered under one roof. The large bar next to the dining room hosts both live acts and DJs, you can order cocktails at your table and the beer bar Ölbaren serves a wide range of beers. During the summer months, the separate inner courtyard is the place to sip cocktails and enjoy DJ sets.
Münchenbryggeriet Beer GardenTorkel Knutssonsgatan 2, Södermalm
Münchenbryggeriet's beer garden opened outdoors in the summer of 2020 and quickly became such a success that they continued indoors in the autumn. International streetfood combines with Münchenbryggeriet's own craft beer, local gin and Swedish whiskey. Jazz, reggae, Americana and other musical genres add to the atmosphere.
ParadisoTimmermansgatan 24, Södermalm
The team behind Tjoget also run Paradiso on Mariatorget. The bar gets its inspiration from warmer climes and hotspots such as Miami and Cuba. Come by for their innovative cocktails or just a beer or glass of wine in stylish surroundings.

Popular hotel bar
Rival is an always-popular, centrally-located Södermalm meeting place. The hotel has several different bars and the cocktail bar is especially well-known for its Art Deco-inspired decor with red velvet sofas, mirrors and rugs. Order classic cocktails and listen to DJs spinning tunes.

New York vibes
Their distinctive neon sign guides the way to Morfar Ginko on Swedenborgsgatan between Mariatorget and Södra station. Cool premises with a New York feel, an outdoor area in the summer and DJ sets in the loft area above the bar make this one of Stockholm's most popular spots.

Ljunggren on Götgatan is as famous for its Asian fusion menu as its expertly mixed cocktails. The cocktail list includes ingredients such as herbs, fruits and Asian spirits. Don't miss the wall art from both national and international artists, or visiting the terrace in the summer months.
AkkuratHornsgatan 18, Södermalm
Akkurat, set a few metres back from Hornsgatan, has been drawing in visitors with their whiskey and beer selection since the Nineties. As well as 28 different kinds of beer from small breweries on tap and by the bottle, you can also try their own beer, which is only served on site, or book in for a beer or whisky tasting.

There aren't many places in the city centre that can boast such breathtaking views as Himlen, right at the top of the "Skatteskrapan" skyscraper. Look out over the capital from 104 metres up while sipping classic cocktails or sating your hunger with something from the lounge menu in the sky bar.

Since opening in 2010, Fotografiska has become one of the capital's most popular museums. But lots of visitors come here just for the restaurant and bar. Both have a strong sustainable philosophy and seasonal ingredients take centre stage. Expect organic non-alcoholic drinks, Nordic beers and selected wines.

One of the city's oldest beer halls
This historic beer hall by Björns trädgårds park draws in football fans, club kids, beer aficionados and hungry guests alike, year in and year out. You can always count on a lively atmosphere, a friendly bar scene and classic Swedish homecooking in the dining room. Kvarnen also has an outdoor dining area which is open all year round.

Popular meeting place
You could describe Urban Deli on Nytorget as a second living room for Södermalm locals. A great place to hang out from morning till night, and don't be surprised if you bump into the odd Swedish celeb there. Their Post Bar serves natural wine, craft beer and seasonal food.

From coffee to cocktails
Lykke Kaffegårdar, in Café String's former premises on Nytorget, serves everything from coffee to small dishes, craft beer, natural wine and creative cocktails. Drink cocktails made from ingredients such as fermented strawberries, espresso or hibiscus. DJs spin vinyl here each week.
BirdRenstiernas Gata 30, Södermalm
Cocktails and streetfood
Bird now has a second branch in Södermalm, with the same focus on fried chicken as well as an emphasis om post-work drinks and late nights. Innovative cocktails and sparkling cava are served up in sociable, laid-back surroundings. When hunger sets in, tuck into fried chicken and American/Asian streetfood.
Katarina ÖlkaféKatarina Bangata 27, Södermalm
Beer and sandwiches
As you might imagine, the yeasted brew plays centre stage at Katarina Ölkafé. There's beer from small breweries on tap and bottled beer comes from local breweries including Tempel Brygghus, Södra Maltfabriken, Fjäderholmarnas bryggeri and Stockholm Brewing Co. If you're hungry the menu includes hearty sandwiches and snacks.
Punk Royale CaféFolkungagatan 128, Södermalm
Edgy sister restaurant
The sister restaurant of much-hyped Punk Royale includes a large bar counter. Take a pew for a cocktail or beer; unlike the restaurant next door only a couple of seats here are bookable, making it easier to come by for a quick drink and bite to eat. The atmosphere, aesthetic and noise level are all true to the original Punk Royale spirit.

Filip Fastén and Joel Åhlin's hip Vasastan restaurant Agrikultur has a Södermalm sister, this mini restaurant on Nytorget. They serve their own gin brand, craft beer and delicious small dishes, among other things.
Harvest HomeBondegatan 50, Södermalm
A broad, delightfully motley crew of regulars gather round the wooden tables at homely Harvest Home on Bondegatan, drawn in by the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The beer selection is extensive and you'll find some rare breweries among the better known bottle labels.
Whippet LabRutger Fuchsgatan 5, Södermalm/Skanstull
Micro beers and social activism
Whippet Lab in Skanstull serves micro-brewed beer from their own brewery, a long list of well mixed cocktails and elegant comfort food. They call themselves a "club for social equality", which in practical terms mean they let local organisations use their space for free on Mondays.
