Cosy restaurants in each part of town:
Popular and friendly
Aubergine is a sure thing for anyone looking for a warm, unpretentious atmosphere and food well made from top notch Swedish ingredients. New York influences
The gang behind Kommendören and Vassa Eggen serve their favourite dishes here seven days a week. The menu focuses on flavours from the USA served in New York-inspired bistro surroundings. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the intimate cocktail bar with someone you like.
Kommendörsgatan 7, Östermalm
Fun and unpretentious
Paraden, part of the ever-popular Bockholmengruppen stable of restaurants, is an unpretentious, relaxed neighbourhood restaurant that makes for a great value evening out. Eat on the stairs, in the bar or dining room. O why not climb up to the top floor and grab a pew on the balcony? The menu includes a selection of small dishes, inspired by Mediterannean cuisine.
Valhallavägen 147, Östermalm/Gärdet
Eat among famous works of art
Konstnärsbaren is a culinary and cultural institution that remains as relevent today as when it opened in the Thirties. Diners come for the classic cuisine, but also the unique atmosphere and art history - the walls are lined with paintings by the likes of Isaac Grünewald and Einar Forseth. The menu consists of traditional Swedish dishes such as Wallenbergare (veal patties), Isterband (smoked pork sausage) and Toast Skagen (butter-fried toast with prawn and dill mayonnaise).
Smålandsgatan 7, Norrmalm/City/Östermalm
European and American influences
Just a stone's throw from Dramaten theatre, this stylish and sultry restaurant takes inspiration from the brasseries of Paris and New York. Come to enjoy classic dishes among the brown velvet banquettes, white tablecloths, mahogany walls and black and white photographs or just sip a champagne cocktail at the bar.
Ingmar Bergmans gata 2, Östermalm
A Spanish passion for food
Not surprisingly, Spanish cuisine is the order of the day at Spanjorskan ("the Spanish lady"). The restaurant, part of the Bockholmen group, serves up ingredients from more southerly climes and you'll find plenty of tapas and other traditional dishes on the menu. The Spanish feel extends to the decor, with dramatic red walls and simple wooden tables.
