Great ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in Stockholm
Updated 13 Feb 2019
Cosy, intimate dinners, long walks and relaxing spa treatments together. There are plenty of ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in Stockholm, whether you're an incurable romantic or prefer something a little more spontaneous. We give you the heads up on everything from restaurants, theatres and hotel stays to romantic budget options for this year's Valentine's Day.
Stockholm is full of romantic restaurants for an atmospheric dinner. Full-blown, big city romance, Lady and the Tramp atmosphere or just a relaxed dinner date? You'll find something for everyone here. These suggestions usually have special Valentine's Day menus to celebrate with.
Taking a long walk together is a classic couples activity, and Stockholm is packed with picturesque walks. Set your sights on a nice café or restaurant to finish up at and you've got your whole day sorted.
From Vasastan to Bockholmen Hav & Restaurang
From Nybroplan via Djurgården to Djurgårdsbrunn
From Centralen to Långa Raden on Skeppsholmen
From Årstaviken, Söder Mälarstrand or round Långholmen to Lasse i parken in Hornstull.
From Ringvägen and Skanstull to Matateljén in Enskede.
From Kungsholmen to Nybroplan or Slussen for a boat trip to Fjäderholmarna.
Of course, romance doesn't necessarily mean going out on the town. Pick up a few delicacies and maybe some pre-prepared food from one of Stockholm's delis, food halls or restaurants with takeaway. Then all you need is some good music and candlelight.
Sink down into a warm pool, have a relaxing couples treatment and swan around in fluffy towelling robes while you eat fruit and perhaps sip a glass of champagne. Making Valentine's Day a spa day is quite the thing.
If you really want to go all in, a night (or two) at a hotel is a failsafe option. Lots of them offer special Valentine's Day packages if you want to raise the romance stakes higher still.
Escape from the big city and take a little trip on Valentine's Day - here are our tips for great excursions outside the city centre. Everything from exhibitions to idyllic cafés, restaurants and archipelago experiences you're guaranteed to enjoy.
See a play or musical
Going to the theatre is perfect for a romantic date. Find an intimate little independent theatre or book tickets to one of the big stages and go to a musical. Round off the date with dinner and wine at a restaurant nearby.
Explore a common interest or learn something new at one of the city's many museums. Treat yourselves to a peaceful moment and soak up some ancient history, modern art or iconic photography. Combine the experience with a good lunch or glass of wine at a restaurant nearby.
Fotografiska: Visit the photographic exhibitions and finish with a meal in Fotografiska Restaurang with spectacular views of Stockholm.
Naturhistoriska riksmuseet: Who doesn't like animals and nature? Learn about humankind, the animal kingdom and our planet, and don't miss the 3D cinema experience in Cosmonova. Round off with lunch or dinner at Stallmästaregården Restaurang.
Moderna Museet: If you're looking for contemporary art and new perspectives, this is the place to go. Finish with a glass of wine and charcuterie plate in the bar or at the Restaurangen Moderna Museet (MoMuMat)
Hallwylska museet: High life, parties, oysters and champagne - that's how it was here in the old days. Welcome to the perfectly preserved home of the Von Hallwyl family to learn about their life there during the last turn of the century. Afterwards, choose one of many nearby restaurants for a drink or dinner, for example Berns Bistro & Bar or Vau De Ville.
ABBA The Museum: Interested in music? Dive into the world of one of the most famous pop bands the world has ever seen. Round off with lunch or dinner at Hasselbacken.
Liljevalchs konsthall: If you're interested in art and design you shouldn't miss this magnificent building on Djurgården. There's art here for both experts and the wider public. Walk on to Oaxen Slip for dinner.
Lace up your bowling shoes (and why not pop on a freshly-ironed bowling shirt?) and have some fun on this day of love! Opposite Mariatorget you'll find the uber-classic bowling hall Rock & Bowl, which has been around since the Thirties and where bowling mixes with rock music. Disco bowling's also a fun option. Combine with dinner at a restaurant for a full night out.
The recently opened Swing by Golfbaren is the perfect spot for a combination of mini golf, food and cocktails in the spirit of the American Thirties. Combine your game with international dishes such as lobster rolls, sliders and New Orleans pizza, served beneath a large glass ceiling.
