Good value restaurants in Vasastan

Treating yourself to a meal out on the town is an unbeatable way to add a little sparkle to your working week. Stockholm isn't generally known for its cheap restaurants but there are plenty of reasonable places to eat out in Vasastan - as long as you know where to look. This colourful bistro right next to Vasaparken serves popular dishes at decent prices. They serve dinner, lunch and a popular brunch in comfortable, modern surroundings. Their summer al fresco dining area next to the park is an added bonus.

At Pings Sakura you grill or cook your own dinner in hot pots at the table. This sociable way of dining is inspired by Asia, particularly Japan and Taiwan and it's great value. At lunchtime you can enjoy Asian homecooking dishes.

Fresh and enviromentally aware
Freshly-made gourmet burgers are the order of the day at Jureskogs, made from Swedish ingredients with the smallest possible environmental impact. Quality and sustainability are restaurateur Johan Jureskog's watchwords. Tuck into their short but sweet selection of hamburgers, including a couple of vegetarian options, just a short skip and a jump from Rådmansgatan metro station.

Warm, friendly atmosphere
The menu at this French neighbourhood bistro is regularly updated, and the dishes of the day are written up on a blackboard. You'll usually find plenty of classic French favourites such as boeuf bourguignon, steak frites and lobster bisque - all for decent prices.

This Italian deli by Vasa park has a counter filled with pizza slices made from top notch, natural ingredients. Choose from various toppings and combine your pizza with a glass of natural wine or a microbrewed beer if you fancy - everything they serve is small-scale and great quality.

Authentic French bistro
This French-inspired brasserie serves authentic, seasonal food from small-scale French suppliers, in unpretentious and lively surroundings. Slink in for a bite to eat, or just to hang out at the long zink cocktail bar all evening. The restaurant has some 140 covers, of which 20 are always reserved for drop-ins.

Tuck into galettes
Crêperie & Logi started in Visby in Gotland and made a name for themselves for their French buckwheat galettes and crêpes. Their Vasastan branch is on a peaceful little backstreet and you can eat both lunch and dinner here in snug surroundings. Choose from a range of different fillings to suit vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.
Upplandsgatan 17, Norrmalm/City/Vasastan
This Norrlandic restaurant on Upplandsgatan serves the best ingredients and flavours from Sweden's northernmost region. Rustic cuisine, made from the finest produce including plenty of game, is served with a modern twist. If you're longing to escape to the mountains and wide open spaces of the north, Knut's cooking and atmosphere will transport you there for a while.

You'll find Omni on Torsplan, serving Swedish and Italian favourites at lunch and dinner. The emphasis here is on tasty, fast food using top-notch ingredients. The restaurant is popular among local office workers, along with other hungry guests in the mood for classic dishes.

One of the oldest Italians in the city
As one of Stockholm's oldest Italian restaurants, Pompei serves up classic Italian dishes made from scratch and served in historic surroundings. The menu includes everything from meat and fish dishes to pasta and pizza and prices are reasonable, particularly if you choose pasta or pizza.

You'll find this cosy little Alpine-style resturant right next door to Vanadisplan. Choose from various different kinds of fondue; from classic cheese fondue to fish and shellfish fondue and even a Toblerone dessert fondue. Perfect for large groups or even dinner à deux.

Sharing is caring
Crispy Pizza is one of the latest additions to the selection of posh pizzerias in Vasastan. They're passionate about baking pizzas from local ingredients, served in hip, vintage-style surroundings. Pizza fans, including the more discerning, come to share organic pizzas with toppings such as pulled pork and hand-peeled prawns, washed down with microbrewed beer and good wines.

Odengatan 85, Vasastan
You'll find this Vietnamese restaurant right next to Odenplan. The owners serve fast, simple dishes just like their grandmother in southern Saigon used to cook. Spring rolls, beef stew, noodle soup and noodle salad are some of the dishes on the menu and, typically for Vietnamese cusine, they're flavoured with plenty of fresh herbs.

Mexican flavours and heat
If Mexican food is your thing, get yourself along to Yuc Mexican near Odenplan. Choose from great value Mexican and Peruvian fusion dishes such as tacos and ceviche, combined with typical Mexican drinks such as mezcal, margaritas, tequila and beer.

Finnish falafel chain
This Finnish fast food chain launched in Stockholm in 2018. You can eat exciting falafels and other Middle Eastern-inspired streetfood, made from fresh ingredients, organic wherever possible. Their pitas, sauces and gluten-free falafels are all made to Fafa's own secret recipes.

Japanese and Chinese
Kokyo's menu is filled with both Japanese and Chinese dishes, with an emphasis on dumplings and gyoza. Many of the dishes are vegan or vegetarian, and they make their own tofu in-house. The restaurant also has a VIP room for 8-14 people with its own karaoke - perfect for a hen night or a spot of post-work partying.
