We guide you to the Stockholm restaurants with great concepts, delicious food, a good atmosphere or other plus points that mean you'll end the evening with a nice, positive feeling and a few notes left in your pocket. In gorgeously decorated, cosy environs, Nytorget 6 serves classic food with Mediterranean influences for around 200 SEK for a main course. A really popular concept which works equally well at sister restaurant Österlånggatan 17 in the Old Town. Great places to hang out without blowing the budget.

This French bistro adjoining the classic cinema of the same name works just as well as somewhere to go for a quick bite to eat before the movie as for a whole evening out. You'll find chèvre chaud and hamburgers, among other dishes, for under 200 SEK.

The thoughtful Norrland concept at Knut makes the restaurant something really special. And you can enjoy the rustic dishes from Sweden's northern mountain ranges without feeling as though you've been fleeced. Great service and originality for your money.

Gastrologik's simpler little sister restaurant is a happy combination of relaxed, good value and innovative, in a spontaneous way. Book in advance or swing by on the off chance for an unpretentious lunch or dinner in budget gastro-style. The food is rustic, the prices fair and the concept is perfect for busy people on the go.

Simple, speedy Asian streetfood? Kimchistan serves authentic, healthy food of various kinds. Order via digital screens and decide what you want to add to your order. Their bowls are based on rice or noodles, which you can complement with vegetables and the protein of your choice.

Cosy French budget spot
Crêpes are perhaps most often associated with sweet, crisp dessert pancakes. But at the local French bistro À la Crêpe you can also sate your hunger with a filling galette. This fantastic Östermalm institution has been an obvious choice of neighbourhood restaurant for locals for many years, thanks to its relaxed and lively atmosphere. Aubergine's good value, Mediterranean-influenced menu varies according to the season and includes several dishes for under two hundred kronor. Get with the gang and enjoy an delicious meal.

With creative and international chicken dishes, using chicken from selected Swedish farms, Bird has raised this rather everyday bird to new heights. Chicken always tastes best eaten with your hands, and the great prices are a big plus.

The Shanti family's lovely restaurant behind Medborgarplatsen on Södermalm serves authentic Indian cuisine with flavours from the different Indian regions - using partly organic ingredients. You don't need to completely empty out your piggy bank to come away from here full and satisfied.

French neighbourhood bistro with reasonable prices
The aim at Café Facile in Vasastan is to serve high quality food for low prices, and almost everything here comes in under the magical 200 SEK line. The idea is that diners should be able to afford a starter, main course and dessert; perfect for a Sunday dinner. The food is French and the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and crowded.

If you've never experienced the delights of Lebanon it's about time, and you don't need to travel any further than to Drottninggatan, a stone's throw from Rådmansgatan. The menu consists mainly of meze dishes ideal for sharing, the wine is also Lebanese and pairs perfectly with the food.

The industrial-chic restaurant Hongkist near Stureplan is a real find when you're craving Asian food; they serve everything you could wish for flavour-wise. How do dishes such as yakiniku, Thai curry and Chinese classics from 100 to 200 SEK sound?

You'll find the Stockholm branch of this Finnish restaurant chain in Södermalm, serving Mexican-inspired dishes and hamburgers in Mexican themed surroundings. They serve everything from soft tacos and fajitas to hearty hamburgers, grilled dishes and salads among sombreros and cactuses. Drop by with family or friends.

Owned by actor duo
Enter a world of Americana as you take a pew in this diner-inspired burger joint. If the colourful decor isn't enough to put you in a good mood, their yummy shakes will. The menu includes a range of burger combos, including vegetarian and vegan options. Actors Mahmut Suvakci and Joel Kinnaman are the owners - if you're lucky they'll be sitting in the next booth.
Regulars' pub with traditional Swedish home-cooking
If you're looking for an unpretentious atmosphere, an authentic local feel and Swedish home-cooking classics, Harvest Home should do the trick. You'll come back to this place over and over again for its good value à la carte, and it may well be the slow-cooked dish of the day that draws you back more often still. "Uffe's home-made sausages" and cheeseburgers with sambal aioli are also on the menu. You'll definitely leave without too large a hole in your pocket and you'll get a nice neighbourhood feeling into the bargain.

After putting Farsta on the burger map, Bun Meat Bun opened up in Söderhallarna food halls right in the centre of Medborgarplatsen. You can enjoy their famous burgers, made according to the "smash technique" (for the best possible burger surface texture), served between fluffy potato bread buns. Not just tasty burgers - this is "fast casual! in terms of quality, simplicity and good value for money.

You don't need to travel all the way to Asia to experience their food culture and traditions. At Pings Sakura you can order hot-pots and enjoy the kind of sociable dinner experience you'd find in Taiwan or Japan. If you'd prefer something other than hot-pot, there's a wide selection of other Asian dishes to choose from.

Every Sunday between midday and 7pm Glada Stinsen serves various dishes at a special reduced price. As well as this "happy hundred" deal, they also offer an extensive memu with hot and cold dishes at reasonable prices - everything from fish and shellfish to meat and vegetarian meals.

Trendy and budget-friendly in Sofo
With a chic mixture of bistro, bar and café, Kaferang provides a trendy and budget-friendly choice in the middle of Sofo (the area south of Folkungagatan on Södermalm) A relatively small menu is served here with Italian-influenced starters, main courses and desserts. Perfect for dinner with friends in the middle of the week.

At Pat's Place on Folkungagatan the emphasis is on a slightly cooler and more modern type of Thai food culture.The restaurant serves Thai "tapas", often named after famous musicians or films. The owner aims to give guests an authentic Thai culinary and cultural experience so certain familiar elements, such as waving cats in the window, are conspicuous in their absence.

Mumbai Dreams on Hornsbergs strand serves Indian classics such as sizzler dishes and tikka masala, made from top quality ingredients and skilled Indian cooking - with most dishes costing under 200 kronor. You can also tuck into the buffet, which includes salad, naan bread and coffee, at lunchtime.

You shouldn't just visit the neighbourhood restaurant Soldaten Švejk for the beer - they also serve good value food with Czech overtones. Expect serious portions of knödel, schnitzel, cheese and sauerkraut. A great local restaurant choice - for the food, atmosphere and your wallet.

Fair prices at this smart neighbourhood restaurant
Nybrogatan 38 dishes up a fantastic restaurant experience, with main courses all under the 200 kronor mark. Here, you can enjoy everything from an omelette with gruyère, to moose meatballs, corn-fed chicken with truffled pointed cabbage and salad with grilled fillet of beef at decent prices. This place is living proof that a lively but cosy local restaurant feel and Swedish/Mediterranean cusine doesn't have to cost the earth. Nybrogatan 38 may just be our absolute favourite restaurant in Stockholm, if pricing is included in the equation. A large number of tables are always available for drop-ins, but be prepared for a few minutes' wait as it's always packed.

Affordable restaurant experience
Over the past few years some ambitious pizzerias have opened, not just when it comes to the pizzas themselves but the entire experience. These restaurants may not be particularly cheap in pizzeria terms, but compared to ordinary restaurants you can have a really reasonable meal at these places.
Bonus tip: Restaurang SIR
Luxury at student prices
This is where students at Stockholm's international restaurant school show what they're made of - at proper student prices. The menu includes Swedish and international creations which are presented professionally. Restaurang SIR is mainly open at lunch, but also for dinner a few times a month (see their website for more info). Make sure you book a table to guarantee a table - they're in hot demand.
