West coast-inspired homecooking and matches on the big screen - Restaurang Olivedal serves up the best of both worlds.

The team behind Restaurang Olivedal make up more or less half a football team, both literally and metaphorically. Everyone in the restaurant crew brings their own hand-selected expertise to the party, from chefs to bartenders and no less than the well-known Gothenburg local and professional footballer, Tobias Hysén.

This west coast restaurant has strong connections to the world of sport. The name, for example, comes from Café Olivedal, where IFK Göteborg football team was founded more than a hundred years ago, but at Restaurang Olivedal they're as passionate about good Swedish homecooking as they are about The Beautiful Game. The menu changes according to the season and the chef's mood and includes everything from smaller snacks to hearty main courses, with meat, fish and plant-based options.

The restaurant's blue interiors, its centrally placed bar with plenty of space to sit and have a drink or a snack, as well as the more private booths, welcome families wanting to sit down for a meal as well as groups of friends who want to hang out over a beer and a posh version of the classic Gothenburg streetfood dish 'halv special' - a hot dog with mash and prawn mayo. There are several big screens around the restaurant, discreetly hidden, which can be brought out for matches before or after you've eaten. The restaurant has an outdoor eating area open in the summer months, which is a real suntrap for most of the day.

If you're a group wanting to sit separately, celebrate something or perhaps discuss the upcoming match, the restaurant's chambre séparée is tucked away behind elegant curtains at the back of the restaurant. If you want to watch something other than sport-related programmes, just ask - the staff here are usually happy to oblige.
