Where to celebrate New Year's Eve in Gothenburg

Celebrate the start of the new year with an explosion of flavours at Noot Nordik Kitchen & Bar's new year's eve dinner. They'll be serving five courses, all matched with carefully selected drinks. Choose between meat and vegetarian menus. 

West Swedish gastronomy is the name of the game at this Bib Gourmand-recognised restaurant. Ingredients come from the surrounding area and their philosophy is that simple is best - as long as the ingredients you use are the best possible quality. They'll be serving lunch, an early 3-course new year's eve menu and a 5-course dinner later on. Familjen is also well known for their excellent, innovative cocktails - perfect for toasting in the new year with.

At Asian Kaifo, they'll be chucking out the old year and celebrating in the new. “Masses of dishes” - vegetarian or meat - and delicious sour or sweet cocktails, all served in a fun atmosphere, are the order of the day. A festive evening with views over Södra vägen.

At Totale, the Orrmyr family has created a wonderfully fun and buzzy spot where everyone can feel at home, and of course that also applies on New Year's Eve. They'll be celebrating 2023 with a grilled and smoky New Year's supper that they themselves call "Totale dinner deluxe extra plus", a seven-course menu that is served vegan or with meat and fish. Expect festive and tasty food and a hearty atmosphere, as well as generous wine packages.

At Jacy'z, the party starts at lunchtime, when the first guests arrive to take part in the New Year's celebrations. Choose from different packages that all include overnight accommodation, breakfast, revelry and delicious food. Some of the packages also include entry to the pool club, where the party goes on until 2am.

Celebrate the new year at Brasserie Lavette on Södra Vägen with a new year's eve dinner - either with seafood and meat, or completely vegetarian. The carnivorous menu includes scallops and lamb entrecote, while the vegetarian one includes celeriac ravioli and portobello au orange - all served with delicious accompaniments.  And don't worry about the champagne, it's carefully selected and well chilled.

Celebrate the New Year in elegant style at Pigalle. This romantic boutique hotel with its heavy fabrics, patterned furniture and attentive service transports you back to la belle epoque. Both the wine bar Amuse and the restaurant Atelier welcome anyone who want to see in the new year in glamorous surroundings. 

Atmosphere is important at this intimate and familiar restaurant in Lorensberg, where they aim to create personal experiences that revolve around carefully selected ingredients and unusual wines. On New Year's Eve they'll be serving five well-composed dishes, either vegetarian or with meat and fish, paired with fun wines and bubbly.

At Atrium you can see in the old year and welcome in the new one in luxurious style. Their new year's eve package includes a specially composed new year's eve menu with four courses. If you choose to stay on in the hotel you can kickstart the first day of the year with a generous breakfast buffet and a visit to Hagabadet spa.

This is a popular hangout in the summer, with its balconies and lush outdoor seating. But it's just as festive on New Year's Eve, when they host a New Year's dinner in two sittings. Expect a pre-dinner drink, classic New Year's dishes and a luxurious atmosphere.

As you might expect, Levantine bistro's New Year's dinner will have a distinctly French flavour. Classic New Year's favourites such as bleak roe, Toast Skagen, beef fillet and crème brûlée are made in their own special way, and if you want to splurge a little extra, you can add a serving of caviar.

You'll find Mei Rose in the Liseberg area, inside the Grand Curiosa Hotel. Toast the new year on the roof terrace with a view of Gothenburg and the fireworks, and hop aboard a gastronomic journey through Chinese cuisine. 

This urban jungle is also one of the city's largest restaurants. New Year's is celebrated here with dishes including steak tataki, scallops and halibut sashimi, as well as ice-cold cocktails, bubbly and an exciting New Year atmosphere both upstairs in the restaurant and downstairs in the Jungle Bar.

Celebrate the new year at the Clarion Hotel Post with a choice of different new year's eve packages to celebrate the new year. Norda serves an ambitious five-course dinner wine packages, shows, dancing and bubbly. The Great Gatsby-themed new year's eve party starts at 11pm and carries on until 3am. Wake up relaxed the morning after and enjoy a delicious breakfast before you check out.

Papa Mastani ends the year with a great atmosphere and a memorable four-course New Year's dinner, which starts with oysters and onion soup and is followed by your choice of main course: fillet of beef, halibut or halloumi with side dishes. A creamy chocolate mousse is served for dessert.

You can count on one of the city's most spectacular views from the Hotel Riverton's stylish restaurant View and its adjoining skybar. Treat a loved one to an overnight stay at the hotel and kick off the new year in style. The evening starts with a welcome drink, before moving on to a four-course new year dinner that includes bleak roe, crayfish, fillet of beef and burnt-butter cake, with a selected wine package and a glass of champagne at midnight. The city's most famous, and possibly most classic, fish and seafood restaurant housed in the old warehouses of the East India Company serves up a marine-influenced new year celebration. Sjömagasinet serves a menu filled with classic flavours, with an emphasis on the best the West Coast has to offer. An elegant wine package accompanies the menu and the restaurant has views over the entrance to Gothenburg harbour.

Welcome in the new year with open arms and delicious food and drinks at Bord 27. Expect high volume, a festive atmosphere and straight-up, no-frills good times. 

This speakeasy bar and three-story restaurant invites you to enjoy a fun, dynamic New Year celebration. The gastropub-oriented menu switches to a classic New Year's supper with Toast Skagen to start, beef fillet or halibut for main course and crème brûlée for dessert. Toast each other in festive cocktails.

La Gondola Trattoria has been around since the 70s making it the city's oldest Italian restaurant. They serve an Italian interpretation of classic New Year's flavours, such as veal carpaccio, tortellini with crayfish sauce and chocolate mousse. A similar concept applies at their sister restaurant, La Piccola Gondola in Stora Saluhallen indoor food market, where you can watch the New Year's revellers on crowded Kungstorget.

In the middle of Avenyn, Nikkei restaurant The Parlour serves up cosmopolitan vibes and fabulous fusion cuisine. For New Year's, a six-course supper is served, which can be made vegetarian. Come early and have a cocktail at the bar before dinner kicks off.

With a view of the Älvsborg Bridge and the open sea, Brasserie Waterfront is a popular hangout on New Year's Eve, with fantastic views of the fireworks. Seafood is something of a specialty here so you can expect it to play a part on their New Year dinner menu. The New Year's package includes a glass of fizz as an aperitif, a four-course New Year's dinner and overnight stay with a large breakfast buffet.

Start the day with a slap-up lunch at Joe Farelli's, which takes its inspiration from New York and Little Italy, and serves favourites from Italian-American cuisine. Grab some chicken wings, a piece of meat, pizza, salad or burger, and it should see you through until the evening's meal. 

Biljardpalatset and their in-house restaurant BP Brasserie are open for New Year's Eve from midday to 6 pm on New Year's Eve. Come by with friends and family for a game of pool or shuffleboard, and have a bite to eat in the restaurant before you party on or call it a night.
